MHO is always looking for new volunteers to help us in its mission to build and improve homes, neighborhoods, communities -- and lives -- for the people of Asheville and Buncombe County. The organization is currently seeking volunteers to:
- Help at the 2008 Doors of Asheville
- Help build handicap access ramps
- Help families build their homes in Black Mountain
Contact MHO Crew Leader of Volunteers David Sluder at 828-254-4030 x119 or david@mtnhousing.org for more info.
Since its founding in 1988, MHO has worked with volunteers to provide safety-related home repairs for low-income homeowners in Asheville and Buncombe County. MHO offers rewarding volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
Volunteer repairs may include:
- Building wheelchair/handicap access ramps
- Installing handrails or interior “grab-bars”
- Repairing rotted floors
- Replacing porches and stairs
Volunteers must be at least high school age due to safety requirements and the technical nature of some of the work. However, carpentry experience is not required. Volunteers must only possess a desire to make a real difference in someone’s life. All volunteers work under the supervision of qualified and experienced MHO staff.
