The Land of the Sky Music and Arts Fest will be held on Saturday, September 3, at the festival’s annual – if unusual – location, at the Blue Ridge Corn Maze near Brevard. The festival features a day of great music – this year from Mojo Collins, Tim Brooks and the Alien Sharecroppers (along with other performers), and is also the venue for the 2005 National Slide Guitar Festival and Competition.
Through the years, Mojo Collins, with his raspy, very bluesy, style, has opened for or performed with Fleetwood Mac, Janis Joplin and Big Brother & the Holding Company, Steve Miller, Santana, The Grateful Dead, Ike and Tina Turner, Muddy Waters, Leon Redbone, Sly and the Family Stone, Blue Cheer, The Spinners, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, Keith Shealy, and the incomparable Stevie Ray Vaughn – just to name a few. In addition to his blues/rock performances, Collins also performs a repertoire of folk, pop, and contemporary Christian music at various colleges and other venues. Macon, Georgia-based Tim Brook and the Alien Sharecroppers will also perform at the festival. Tim Brooks' guitar prowess has earned him the recognition of hopeful young guitarists and seasoned veterans. He received international exposure when he took the grand prize in Guitar Player Magazine's 25th Anniversary Ultimate Guitar Competition for his home studio version of 'Made from Scratch', a blazing, two-plus minutes of phenomenal slide guitar. This honor allowed him to share the stage at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco with some of the best guitar killers in the music biz today, including Steve Morse, Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter, Ry Cooder, Adrian Belew, John Lee Hooker, Gregg Allman, and others. The Alien Sharecroppers have built a wide following across the US and Europe, with each of them gathering status individually before teaming up with Tim earlier this year. The Sharecroppers are Benny Mobley on harmonica, Kenny Walters on bass and vocals, Jonathan Randall as lead singer and acoustic guitar, Paul Thomas on keyboards, and Anthony J. Walker on drums and vocals. The festival will be held over Labor Day weekend on Saturday, September 3, from noon to 10 PM, at the Blue Ridge Corn Maze near Brevard, NC. From Interstate 26, take the Airport / Hwy 280 exit. Follow Hwy 280 West for about 15 miles to Pisgah Forest. Turn left on Hwy 64 East. Go 3.5 miles to Penrose.
