Concert Line-Up Features Country, Gospel and Bluegrass at ’08 N.C. Mountain State Fair

A mix of country, gospel and bluegrass premium concerts will fill the McGough Arena stage during the 2008 N.C. Mountain State Fair at the WNC Ag Center in Fletcher, NC. The 10-day fair will run through September 14 and will feature other musical acts on the grounds in addition to the premium series. Seating for the premium concerts is general admission with tickets only $5 per seat in addition to fair admission.

Rising country star Chuck Wicks will take the stage on Tuesday, Sept. 9th at 7:30 p.m. on KISS Country day. Wicks is blasting up the country charts with singles from his first self-titled CD released earlier this year. Country fans will recognize his hits “Stealing Cinderella” and “All I Ever Wanted” from radio and CMT video play.

Classic country fans recognize and love David and Howard Bellamy, known as The Bellamy Brothers from their years of chart-topping recordings. The Bellamys will take the Mountain State Fair stage on Ingles Day, Wednesday evening, Sept. 10th for their 7:30 p.m. show. A recent greatest hits CD along with their Christian music selections have earned them a new legion of fans around the world. Listeners instantly recognize “If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body, Would You Hold it Against Me” and many other hits from their 50 album releases.

Point of Grace is a female gospel group appearing on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. on IWANNA day. The group is now performing as a trio with the departure of Heather after the birth of child number four. Shelley, Denise and Leigh will continue their 17-year ministry, and their Mountain State Fair appearance will be one of the first in trio form. Over the past 12 years, Point of Grace has recorded 10 albums, five of which have been certified gold or platinum. They have also garnered 24 consecutive #1 singles—a feat unmatched in any genre of music.

Wrapping up the premium concert series for the N.C. Mountain State Fair will be a special concert by bluegrass diva Rhonda Vincent on Sunday evening, Sept. 14 at 7:30. Vincent and her band The Rage are known for their hard-driving bluegrass instrumentals and Vincent’s pure vocal style that transitions seamlessly from up-tune to ballad. Vincent will perform a number of selections from her most recent recording “Good Thing Going” that includes boisterous bluegrass classics as well as soul-stirring ballads.

A special treat that evening will begin at 6 p.m. in the McGough when the winning bands from the Mountain Music Festival’s bluegrass and old-time competitions will open the show.
