Robinson Creek is now one step closer to becoming a restored healthy aquatic habitat. Five property owners from the Brookwood subdivision gathered recently to sign a conservation easement bordering Robinson Creek that will forever protect over 25 acres of rapidly developing flood plain property.
This easement is part of RiverLink’s stream restoration project, funded through the Clean Water Management Trust Fund. The project will stabilize eroding stream banks, enhance aquatic habitat, and plant a native 50 foot buffer around the stream. This stream work and the establishment of a buffer is one step towards helping Robinson Creek again become a healthy productive trout stream. Much of the property is the former Brookwood Golf Course that is being converted into residential Healthy Built Homes. The developer for this project has already placed 20 acres into a conservation easement and the adjacent landowners are also chipping in their land to make this project a success. Construction to restore the creek should begin in the coming months, so stay tuned for this project and two restoration projects in West Asheville.
