Volunteers Needed for Project Connect on September 12



Project Connect, an event that will bring community resources together under one roof for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of experiencing homelessness, will take place on Friday, September 12 at the First Baptist Church in Asheville. Resources that will be available at Project Connect include hair cuts, pet care, mental health services, physical health services, housing referrals, mainstream resources including Medicaid, food stamps and child care subsidies, and more.

More than 100 volunteers are needed to serve in several capacities at the event. These include: set up, break down, welcome table and greeters, food service, child center, pet center, and exit/survey table. Children under 18 are welcome to volunteer but will need an adult to accompany them. The event hours will be 8 AM until 2 PM on September 12. Volunteer orientation will be available to volunteers on Tuesday, September 9 and Wednesday, September 10 at 8 AM, Noon, and 4:30 PM. Volunteer orientation will take place at First Baptist Church and all volunteers are asked to participate in one session.

Donations are also being accepted for the event: clean socks, new shoes, toiletries, back packs, sleeping bags, and financial donations to help with food and supplies.
