Workshop Series to Benefit Area Non-Profits

The Blue Ridge National Heritage Area is partnering with WNC Nonprofit Pathways to present two fall workshops to help community nonprofit staff and volunteers learn ways to strengthen their organizations.

Each session is offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in three locations across the mountains. Although attendance at both is not required, it is strongly suggested that participants attend both to derive the most benefit from the workshops.

Nonprofit Management 101

  • Sept. 17 – Bryson City (Swain County)
  • Sept. 24 – Valdese (Burke County)
  • Sept. 26 – Asheville (Buncombe County)
This course will provide an overview of information every nonprofit leader needs to know on six core topics: planning, board basics, finance and legal, communications, fund development, and evaluation. In addition, self-assessment tools will be shared to help organizations evaluate their infrastructure and effectiveness. We will give tips on how to carry out successful partnerships and collaboration. Information will be provided on how to pursue additional resources and assistance to improve nonprofit management.

The Blue Ridge National Heritage Area, designated by Congress and the President in November, 2003, works to protect, preserve, interpret, and develop the unique natural, historical, and cultural resources of Western North Carolina for the benefit of present and future generations, and in so doing to stimulate improved economic opportunity in the region. National Heritage Areas are locally-governed institutions that encourage residents, non-profit groups, government agencies, and private partners to work together in planning and implementing programs that preserve and celebrate America’s defining landscapes.
