Bravo Kicks Off 79th Season with “Wall to Wall Williams” at Thomas Wolfe on September 10

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (or, in the 1970’s in Hollywood, at any rate), composer John Williams became a household name for his unmistakable themes from Jaws and Star Wars. In the near future, very, very nearby, Asheville Bravo Concerts kicks off its 79th season with Wall to Wall Williams, a celebration of his most beloved film scores on September 10.

John Williams had already been an established composer of Hollywood film scores for 15 years before his name became synonymous with that of director Steven Spielberg for their collaborations on blockbusters like Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., and the Indiana Jones and Harry Potter series. Not limited to fantasy/adventures, Williams has also lent his musical imagination to stirring dramas like Saving Private Ryan, Amistad, and Schindler’s List. Nearly 100 films boast music composed by Williams, earning several Oscar and Grammy awards and countless nominations over five decades, making him “the best known, most popular composer in history” (New York Times).

Rachael Worby, Musical Director and Conductor for the Pasadena Pops, leads the West Virginia Festival Orchestra through this evening of selections from the most popular Williams scores. Worby served for four years on the National Council on the Arts, and was one of the first female professional conductors in the U.S.
