Asheville Music School Community Joins Together, Carries on Legacy of Late Director Paul Thorpe

Interim director and assistant director Amy Rae Stupka and Gabrielle Tee are working side-by-side Paul's life partner, Jim Bixby; AMS founder Anne Coombs; and assistant director Avery Parker to keep the busy downtown Asheville Music School running and thriving. The Asheville Music School employs over 30 teachers and serves more than 300 music students per week. To become involved or to inquire about music lessons at Asheville Music School, call 828-252-6244 or email DowntownAMS@gmail.com.

The Asheville Music School is a community school for anyone who wishes to study music. We teach all styles and levels and have at least three optional recitals a year. Our instructors are brought on board to the organization not only because they are gifted performers, but because they have demonstrated quality teaching and superior knowledge in music. These are professional teachers who want to teach (instead of performers who need to teach to make ends meet). Our school also has wireless internet, so if you are waiting in the lobby, you don’t have to be bored.

The Asheville Music School was started in 1996 by Anne Coombs. In 2002, Paul Thorpe took over ownership of the school. After being located on Charlotte Street since its inception, the Asheville Music School moved downtown in August of 2010 to its fantastic new facility.
