Bring the Kids to "The Boxcar Children" at ACT, Starting March 5

Generations of young readers have cherished the spirited Depression-era adventures of The Boxcar Children. Now the story of the Alden children comes to life on stage March 5 -21 at Asheville Community Theatre in downtown Asheville.

Orphaned and in danger of being sent to different foster homes, the four Alden siblings run away and make their home in an abandoned railroad boxcar. Pursued by the authorities and a mysterious stranger, the children discover the rewards and perils of life on the run, as well as the joy of keeping their family together.

"It’s the perfect adventure show for kids," says director Lori Hilliard. "There is some amazing young talent in the cast."

The show features Bryce Lotz, Jean Louise Webb, Sarah Plaut, and Sam Bible-Sullivan. It runs March 5 -21, Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Two student matinees will play March 9 and 11 at 9:30 a.m.

Asheville Community Theatre has teamed up with Manna Food Bank and Brother Wolf Animal Rescue for a "Food Drive." Patrons who bring a canned good to any performance of The Boxcar Children for either Manna or Brother Wolf will be entered into a drawing for a 2010-11 Asheville Community Theatre Season Subscription.

The Boxcar Children is sponsored by Webb Insurance of Asheville.

Tickets: $22 adults; $19 seniors and students; $12 children; tickets and information online at www.ashevilletheatre.org, in person at the box office at 35 E. Walnut Street in downtown Asheville, or by calling 828-254-1320.

Note: March 9 and 11 student matinee tickets are $6 per student. One free adult chaperon ticket is offered per 25 students.
