thru May 18 - 23rd Annual Festival of Flowers - Each spring Biltmore's Festival of Flowers celebrates the beauty of George W. Vanderbilt's 8,000-acre property and its original design by Frederick Law Olmsted, father of American landscape architecture. During this time, the estate's legendary gardens showcase a seasonal display of vibrant colors from thousands of tulips in the Walled garden to native and exotic blooms in the 20-acre azalea garden. Biltmore's gardens, Olmsted's final and most grand project, are in their 118th year, continuing to mature and growing more beautiful every year. Festivities across the estate include live music, interaction with Biltmore gardeners, storytelling from Biltmore historians, cooking demonstrations, children's activities and craft seminars. thru May 18 - 23rd Annual Festival of Flowers - Discover the beauty of the estate during Biltmore's Festival of Flowers, when our stunning floral displays usher in spring. Explore the gardens, including such fragrant and colorful exhibitions as cheerful tulips in the Walled Garden, cascades of native and exotic blooms in surrounding gardens and along walking trails, as well as delicate arrangements inside Biltmore House. On the weekends, Biltmore provides family festivities, including dancing, music and whimsical skits. The Biltmore Winery joins the celebration with a commemorative Festival of Flowers wine, music, wine programs and children's activities on Saturday and Sunday. thru June 7 - “TED E. TOURISTS” ADAPTIVE BASEBALL PROGRAM - Asheville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts presents the “Ted E. Tourists” adapted baseball program for boys and girls ages 6-16, in partnership with the Asheville Tourists. The program is for youth with or without a disability that limits their ability to play at the Little League level. This is a non-competitive baseball program that modifies the rules to make the game accessible and fun for all players while teaching basic baseball skills. Meet at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, on Martin Luther King Drive, every Saturday, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., April 26-June 7. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, in the gallery. Smith's prints focus on the Irish fairy tale "Guleesh," the Japanese fairy tale "The Straw Cape" and the Greek myth "Apollo and Daphne." The exhibition is a culmination of Smith's work toward a bachelor of arts degree at UNC Asheville.

thru June 5 - PLAY AND LEARN GROUP OFFERED IN EMMA - Parents/caregivers and children ages 2-5 in Buncombe County are invited to attend a series of six free play and learn group sessions at 10am on Thursdays, May 1-June 5 at the Children First Emma Family Resource Center (located next to Emma Elementary School, 37 Brickyard Road). May 15 thru May 25 - The White Rose - In 1942, a group of students in Munich stood up against Hitler's regime in six anonymous leaflets titled The White Rose. Hans Scholl, Sophie Scholl, Willi Graf, Christoph Probst, and Alexander Schmorell used these leaflets to wage a war of propaganda in the hearts of the German people in the closing months of World War II. May 20 - MARIETTA COLLEGE CONCERT CHOIR TO PERFORM AT GRACE LUTHERAN - On Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 7:00 PM the Marietta College Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Daniel Monek will be performing a concert at Grace Lutheran Church in Hendersonville, NC as part of its annual spring tour. The Concert Choir is one of five choral ensembles at Marietta College and one of the college’s oldest organizations. This auditioned group of 45 singers is composed entirely of members of the student body representing every academic division and nearly every major at Marietta College. As ambassadors of the college, the choir performs annually throughout the continental US. Grace Lutheran Church is located at the corner of US 64 West and Blythe Street in Hendersonville. The concert is being presented as a gift to the community and admission is free.
