The Village Potters Clay Center is pleased to announce our first Featured Artist Exhibit for 2024 will be for Caroline Renée Woolard. The exhibit opened March 20 and runs through the end of May in the Feature Gallery at The Village Potters Clay Center.

Caroline Renée Woolard creates functional pottery with the intention of nurturing those who use it in their daily rituals, uplifting their spirits and homes as it invites them to find gratitude in the present moment. Her work explores movement through various textures on the surface with slip and carving, while finding stability and structure within the form. Each surface design is a unique expression of the energy of the moment that she creates it, and as she works with clay, she finds it to be a grounding process that reminds her of the importance of being centered and present.

The exhibit will include some of Caroline’s most popular forms like her mushroom mugs and vessels, her curvaceous lady forms, and her slipped vessels adorned with horsehair. She will also be creating new, larger pieces as she continues to explore the new directions her forms and textures are leading her, and we are all very excited to be along on her journey!

Caroline will also be taking part in the annual Multi-Kiln Opening Celebration at The Village Potters Clay Center on Saturday, May 4, where she will be demonstrating some of her surface design techniques and available throughout the day for questions and discussion about her work.

Enjoy Hendersonville’s wineries and cideries, along with a mix of culinary delights, during the seventh annual Cider, Wine & Dine Weekend, April 19-21.

The popular weekend involves tastings, vineyard tours, wine releases, food events, live music and other activities at 11 tasting rooms in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

New this year are scenic helicopter tours over the seven vineyards of Hendersonville’s Crest of the Blue Ridge wine region. Helicopter tours depart from Souther Williams Vineyard at 30-minute intervals throughout the day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

A signature culinary event is the Spring Vintner’s Dinner at Marked Tree Vineyard, where guests enjoy a four-course meal at sunset paired with wines from the vineyard. At Sawyer Springs Vineyard, wine flights are paired with personal charcuterie cups, and Stone Ashe Vineyards has a wine and chocolate event. A food truck and s’mores satisfy cravings at Appalachian Ridge.

Walking tours provide opportunities to burn calories at Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards and Marked Tree Vineyard. Meanwhile, Bold Rock Hard Cider hosts a morning of mindfulness with a yoga class open to all levels.

The weekend corresponds with apple blossom season in Henderson County, where thousands of acres of apple trees welcome spring with a tapestry of pink and white blooms.

The same soil and climate that have produced apples for generations now prove fertile for grapes. The area recently received federal designation as an American Viticultural Area, making Crest of the Blue Ridge a bona fide wine region on par with more well-known U.S. wine regions.

Buncombe County’s Consolidated 911 Center is looking to complete the membership of the Strategic Visioning Workgroup with a community member at large. As part of our ongoing commitment to service to the community the Strategic Visioning Workgroup will meet quarterly to provide:

• Provide feedback on various reports, studies, plans, etc. prepared for the Department of Public Safety Communications; and
• Discuss and evaluate public safety communications operational performance, protocols and procedures that support an effective 911 center.
• Provide feedback for any matter of relevance requested by County Management.

The CSC membership includes:

Representatives from all of the agencies that we serve, as well as leadership from the Public Safety Communications department and one community member at large.

How a tarot reading works:

Your group reading will begin with an intention-setting, guided meditation. From there, each participant will enjoy a 10-15 minute personalized reading of the cards whose symbolism and possible messages will be interpreted. The cards anchor us back into larger cycles of growth, provide solace through tough times, and encourage us to stay on our path.

The central question the card is meant to address is, “What is it that I need to focus on at this moment to take the next step towards realizing my heart’s desire?” Readings can, though, focus specifically on any aspect of your life, such as your career or relationships.

During readings — whether it’s a virtual tarot reading or in-person — we turn off our phones, gather in a circle, and take a few, deep breaths to center ourselves. We then give each person a chance to ask a question and receive a reading. There are often a few tears, lots of laughs, and plenty of group discussion.

This event is fun and illuminating, offering everyone a deeper connection to everyday magic.

Our tarot readers can come to your home, office, or vacation rental or meet you at a city park, cozy tea house, or local café. Not in Asheville? No worries! We can also meet you online for a virtual tarot reading…no matter where in the world you may be.

The Mountain Institute for Lifelong Learning at Warren Wilson College is offering a full lineup of one-week courses for adult learners this May and July. These intensive short courses take place on the college campus (701 Warren Wilson Rd.), and are taught by Warren Wilson faculty and staff, local artisans and craft folk. Course topics include painting, podcasting, knitting, film making, natural history, fiber arts, birding, mushroom foraging, and fine woodworking, among many others.

“The Mountain Institute for Lifelong Learning is a vessel for community building, exploration, adventure, place-based learning, and the ignition of new passion for lifelong learners,” said Anna Welton, associate dean of community and global engagement at Warren Wilson. “These courses highlight the unique strengths of Warren Wilson College, which has been a hub of experiential learning since its founding as the Asheville Farm School in 1894.”

ReClaim Madison Salvage & Thrift announces our 4th Upcycle Art Auction, a popular community-driven fundraiser event to benefit the Community Housing Coalition (CHC) of Madison County, NC. Hosted for the first time by the Madison County Arts Council in its prominent arts-based venue, the exhibit and silent auction will bring the people of Madison County and beyond together at the intersection of reuse, creativity, and heart.
The auction will feature an intentionally curated exhibit of 35 works created and contributed by professional artists/makers from Madison County and beyond. In addition, a selection of upcycled creations contributed by community members of all skill levels, will be available ready to buy at set prices in the lobby of the exhibit.
